Specific Interest Book Clubs (January -March 2025)
Sponsored by the Helene Cody Foundation
2025 Program: In collaboration with the Helene Cody Foundation, Literary Bridges ran a Book Club for refugee students from January to March of 2025 to replace the annual summer enrichment program. This initiative met in-person at the Cranbury Public Library once a week for two hours where students were able to choose books of their own interest and participate in reading activities and discussions to nurture a love for reading and education in the students. There were about 10 students who took part in the book club ranging from as young as Kindergarten to as old as 8th grade. At the end of the session, a breakfast celebration was held where students shared a little bit about the books they chose to read and what they learned.

Under the direction of Jannat Zaanoun, a rising HS senior, this program has since expanded to include refugees that are not of sole Afghan origin, expanding to serve about 20 refugee students. It runs twice a week from July 8 - August 14, with Mondays dedicated to Afghan adult females (see here) and Wednesdays dedicated to children grades K-12 gaining the necessary remediation skills for the upcoming school year.
